Youth Symposium-The Power of Youth in Accelerating Blood Access in Africa

CoBA hosted a youth symposium in Kenya to mark World Blood Donor Day and World Sickle Cell Day. The event brought together 87 young leaders from Kenya, with virtual participation from Nigeria and Tanzania, to explore innovative solutions for improving blood access in Africa.

The symposium provided a platform for emerging medical professionals to share fresh perspectives and challenge conventional approaches to blood donation and availability. Expert presentations from F & S Scientific and Strathmore University enriched discussions on key topics such as blood research, policy advocacy, and the role of blood in treating critical conditions like malaria, cancer, and postpartum haemorrhage.

Through panel discussions and youth-led sessions, participants proposed actionable solutions to boost blood donation rates, strengthen policy advocacy, and engage communities beyond the medical field. The event highlighted the power of youth voices in driving change and reinforced CoBA’s commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation for sustainable blood access in Africa.
